LOCAL GOODS

Local work belongs here. A coastal community is made by people who make useful things with their hands.

WHAT YOU MIGHT FIND___

Coastal Art — Work inspired by the water, marsh, oysters, boats, wildlife, and the people who live along the Gulf Coast. Including paintings and original photography of the MS Gulf Coast.

Shell Art — Creative, unique pieces that give oyster shells another life!

Useful Things — Handmade knives and kitchen utensils, oyster-related tools, ways to spice up your oysters on the patio or at home, beach bags made from the same aquaculture gear used on the French Hermit farm, small gifts, and other pieces that live somewhere between art and everyday life.

French Hermit Goods — Our very own merchandise and apparel, shucking tools, bags, stickers, and other items from the French Hermit collection.

WHY LOCAL MATTERS_

Buying from a local maker does something a little different from buying a generic souvenir. You are taking home an object with a person, place, material, or story attached to it. Some of the work sold through the store has also incorporated recycled oyster shells, creating an especially natural connection between the products on our shelves and the oysters that bring people through the door. And at the end of the day, you are supporting a real person from the MS Gulf Coast directly with your purchases.

FOR ARTISTS & MAKERS___

Are you a local artist, woodworker, metalworker, jewelry maker, potter, shell artist, designer, craftsman, or small-scale producer? We are interested in work that feels connected to the Mississippi Gulf Coast—especially pieces tied to water, oysters, seafood, coastal life, local culture, craftsmanship, or reclaimed materials.

The collection is intentionally rotating, so we welcome both established makers and people who just starting out!

Send us an email with your information & examples of your work if you’d like to showcase them in the shop. (No more than 5 pieces per person.)
